Dr. Michael Hutchison, PhD

Director

Dr. Michael Hutchison is Director of the Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS) and an Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto. He is an internationally recognized leader in sport science and sport medicine whose research focuses on advancing athlete health, performance, and safety through interdisciplinary research, innovation, and knowledge translation.

Previously, Dr. Hutchison served as Director of the Centre for Sport-Related Concussion, Innovation, and Knowledge, where he led an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, and trainees dedicated to improving the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of sport- and physical activity-related concussions. He holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science, is a Registered Kinesiologist, and currently serves as Chief Research Scientist for the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA).

An accomplished researcher and innovator, Dr. Hutchison has built a research program focused on improving athlete health, performance, and rehabilitation through interdisciplinary science and technology. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, secured over $10 million in research funding, and is the co-founder of Rhea Health Inc., a digital health company developing evidence-based rehabilitation technologies. His work bridges research, clinical practice, and innovation to translate scientific discoveries into meaningful real-world impact.
